In this post, we’re talking about what makes people lucky.
For years people have told me I’m lucky, however, I don’t always agree. I have problems and issues like everyone else.
I can’t dance.
I sound like hell when I’m singing along to my favorite Lady Gaga song.
In fact, I’m no different than you, and every other human on the planet.
We all have our shit.
So what exactly is luck? Is luck something we create and manifest, or is it some cosmic event?
Let’s dive in and see what makes people lucky.
What Makes People Lucky
Luck Is the Reward of Hard Work
Luck stems from putting in the work. For example, take a hard look at anyone with a great business, a great marriage, or a great skill and they almost undoubtedly put a lot of hard work into whatever trait or asset that makes them seem lucky.
If you want to be lucky you have to put in the work. There is no way around it.
Side note: The quickest way to offend someone who has worked hard for what they have achieved is to tell them they got lucky.
Luck Is From Showing Up
Along with hard work is simply showing up. If we don’t show up every day to play the game we can’t possibly win. It’s important to be present in our daily life and mindful of the activities we are doing. Therefore you have to show up and work on the important things.
Most people don’t create luck napping on the couch all day. It just doesn’t work that way.
Show up every day, and work on the things that are going to get results.
That’s what makes people lucky.
Luck Comes from Taking Risks
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
If we don’t take risks it’s impossible to have luck.
If you want to score a date with a cute girl you’re going to have to ask her out. Yes, you’re going to run the risk of getting rejected and humiliated but without risk, there is no reward.
The same goes for starting a new business, a blog, a new job, or anything else.
The people who seem lucky are the ones that take risks.
Luck Comes From Seizing Opportunities
People who appear lucky are great at recognizing and seizing opportunities.
For example, seeing and fulfilling a need consumers may have in a business market. Or bumping into that cute girl you wanted to ask out on the street and having the guts to talk to her.
It’s important to see the positive in things and seize anything that could be considered an opportunity.
Luck Can Come From Others Stupidity
Years ago I had a large competitor who controlled much of the local market. They had a large business that was established and mine was a small upstart. Because I needed to make a decent profit on every sale my prices were higher as well.
One day my competitor decided to make some comments that pissed off his customers.
Like the entire community got word of what this guy had to say and people were not happy.
After hearing what was going on I quickly swooped in and took his customers.
These people were so upset about my competitor’s comments that they were willing to pay our higher prices.
Therefore we got lucky from his stupidity.
Luck Comes From Not Caring What Others Think
When you free yourself from caring what others think it becomes easier to take risks. Without taking risks there are no rewards. Now here’s the truth.
Most people are not afraid of failure — people are afraid of what others are going to think about their failure.
The people that dish out phrases like ‘I told you so’ and ‘I knew you couldn’t do it.’
But it doesn’t matter. The facts are, a win is your win and yours only. The same goes for a loss.
Forget the naysayers. When we stop giving a shit what others think and start going our own way, luck just seems to come along for the ride.
Luck Stems From Being Unlucky
The biggest thing that makes people lucky is failure and perseverance. Most people that seem lucky haven’t’ been lucky at all. Most have failed a ton of times. However, they have learned from those failures and have come up with new strategies to improve.
Making mistakes, learning from those mistakes, and pushing on is what creates luck.
Simply put what makes people lucky is forging through unlucky situations.
The Takeaway
Most luck isn’t really luck at all. Those who seem lucky have put in the work, developed their skills and failed miserably time and time again.
Anyone can be lucky with a lot of hard work.
